Long-time East end resident Katie Holtzhauer has registered to run for public school trustee in Zone 12, Innes/Beacon Hill-Cyrville.

Topics :
Gloucester High School , Carleton District School Board , Innes , Ottawa

For the past 15 years Holtzhauer has served as a member or chair of many east-end parent councils, and also helped lead the fight to keep Gloucester High School and Colonel By Secondary School open.

Holtzhauer says that she feels her record as school council chair and community advocate makes her well suited to be a trustee. She grew up in the community, and it is where her children attend school, she also notes. “I want to give families in Innes/Beacon Hill-Cyrville a new type of representation on the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board – a fresh perspective,” states Holtzhauer.

She is running to support public education for the betterment of students and taxpayers, she adds, and wants to make sure that all schools in Zone 12 are supported through good policies and strategic planning.

Her platform continues her objectives as a school councillor, including better communication between parents, schools and the board. Other key pieces include accommodation studies that respect the needs of the community, as well as fiscal restraint when balancing annual budgets.

The current trustee for Zone 12 is David Moen.
