With construction already underway following funding announcements from the federal and provincial governments five weeks ago, Canadian Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities John Baird and Ontario Francophone Affairs Minister Madeleine Meilleur gathered to underline the institution’s work.
The new building will be home to several existing programs and will allow the school to create new ones in areas such as 9-1-1 call centre operations, emergency services, transport security and advanced police studies.
Five new health-related programs will also be added in ‘B’ building since additional space will be available with programs moving to the new site.
The institute plans to open its doors in September 2011, allowing La Cité to welcome 500 new students and have its population reach 4,000 total students by 2013.
