The mall is holding its annual job fair, starting Friday, Oct. 3. The fair will provide an opportunity for those seeking full- or part-time employment a chance to discover what’s available while at the same time giving participating retailers an opportunity to fill the void left by students who have returned to school.
Retail as an industry is stronger than ever. Between 2001 and 2006, while manufacturing shed 136,700 jobs (77,700 in Ontario alone), retail experienced the third-largest boost for a total of 155,800 additional workers – behind health care/social assistance and construction. This put the total number of retail jobs at over 1.8 million.
According to 2006 Census data, retail salespersons and clerks comprised one of the largest occupations in the country; their numbers rising to 132,300, the largest increase of all occupations.
Retail is also a great fit for students who need to earn extra cash since it offers flexible hours and is relatively low-stress.
The job fair makes it easy for applicants to approach multiple potential employers in one go. Throughout the shopping centre, participating retailers will meet potential candidates, provide application forms, and accept resumés.
The job fair takes place during Place d’Orléans’ normal retail hours, as follows:
Friday, Oct. 3
9:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 4
9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 5
