After years of trying to find a way to stop drivers from barreling past the school, the parent council is finally seeing some action. The city has agreed to install yellow blinking lights to alert drivers to the nearby school.
The hope, explains parent council member Michael Collins, is that drivers will slow down when they notice the flashing lights.
The school has been battling speeders for years now, he continued, noting a recent traffic study indicated the majority of drivers zipping past the school were clocked at 65 km/h. The posted limit is only 50 km/h.
The lights will only flash during the morning and afternoon when children are coming and leaving the school. Estimated at $10,000 each, the two flashing signs should be installed this spring.
