Orléans-based band wins competition
Last Saturday, Black Cherry leader and drummer Rob Letourneau threw out the first pitch after the rock band won the contest.
After spending a few years as a bar band and playing all the classic rock songs that were expected of them, members of Black Cherry decided to start playing their own original music.
When the competition opened up to write a theme song for the Intercounty Baseball League's Ottawa Fat Cats, the band came up with what was ultimately selected as the team's jingle.
"Me and my wife (Judy) are big baseball fans to begin with" said Letourneau. "We're trying to widen our potential audience."
The team invited the band to come out for the first pitch and gave them a shirt. On Canada Day, they will play throughout the game as the team competes at the Ottawa Stadium.
Letourneau describes his band's style as a mixture of classic rock progressing towards blues and jazz.
"It's kind of a cross between Dave Matthew's Band and Fleetwood Mac," he said.
The band is working on its fourth album which it will be released at the Shenkman Arts Centre in early October
