BUILD. Habitat for Humanity National Capital Region will continue on their building streak for the east end, as they will be diving in to one of the biggest builds for Orléans yet.

The ground breaking ceremony for the building of the two single homes and two semi-detaches on Cousineau St.

CEO Alexis Ashworth said the organization has purchased a plot of land at the southeast corner of Jeanne d'Arc Blvd. and Fortune Dr., near Convent Glen Catholic School, and their plan is to build 16 townhomes over the next three years.

Ashworth said the final purchase was made in October after it was found by their land acquisition committee.

"We plan to start [the build] in late spring of next year. We will build four the first year, and then the plan is to build four in the second year and eight in 2018."

Ashworth said they are also starting chapters in Carleton Place and Perth in the fall of next year.

Families can still apply for a home for the 2016 build. For more information on the application process, visit www.habitatncr.com.

"The final approval for families will be in December. By January, hopefully we can share who the families are and then we will hold a ground breaking ceremony which will be sometime in late May [2016]."

Ashworth also added that they are still looking for people to get involved with the build, whether it be a volunteer or even a neighbour who would want to provide lunch and snacks for the day.

"We are also looking for businesses to get involved. They can 'adopt a day' and come build for the day."

A presentation will be held regarding this build, on Nov. 19 at the Convent Glen Community Association meeting. The meeting will take place at the Shenkman at 7 p.m.

Build momentum

It has been years of building and giving back for the east end.

Currently, there is a build taking place on Cousineau St. for two single homes and two semi-detached.  They will be home to four different families, who have all been actively involved with the build.

The builds are expected to be done at the end of January for three of the homes, and then into February for the final home.
