Frost, whose main sporting pursuit is speedskating, is a member of the Canadian adaptive rowing development team, but due to lack of funding hasn’t received many racing opportunities behind Canada’s main international boat that competes in the Paralympic Games.
There isn’t a visually-impaired canoe-kayak category in the Paralympics, Frost notes, although he’s hopeful one might be added in the future.
Last week, he met with Canadian national team kayaker Corey Hamilton at the Rideau Canoe Club and had Hamilton wear special glasses and ear covers that replicate the small amount of vision and hearing Frost owns due to Usher Syndrome.
Frost hoped to learn whether a top-notch paddler would have trouble keeping his balance in the boat with the added vision and auditory challenges in order to select his own appropriate boat length.
