"This is a product of months and months of hard work and the new site will allow AOE to fulfill our mission: to promote, develop and support the arts in Ottawa," said Heather Jamieson, vice-president of AOE's board of directors.
According to Jamieson, the website was designed with its members in mind, since some of them don't have any web presence. AOE's membership includes several individual artists and about 70 arts organizations, representing over 15,000 people in the region.
These artists will be profiled on AOE's home page and a new forum will allow them to bring up issues and engage in discussion. They will be able to post by themselves all of their events on the site's interactive calendar, while each getting their own web page.
The launch of the new website was postponed to Thursday, April 16 as AOE is still making the final touches on these member web pages.
"That's one of the most important parts of our site," said Micheline Joanisse, director of communications at AOE.
The website was designed by Atomic Motion, a Gloucester-based web-development company, and was funded by a $25,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
