To add to the festive flair, Kris Kringle has opted for a new sleigh to delight young and old alike. According to Bob Rainboth, one of Santa’s many helpers, the jolly elf has a “real show stopper” of a float this year.
Santa has enlisted the help of the Orléans Young Players and Ottawa Firefighters Association to create a memorable sleigh with special effects (like runway lights), a GPS system and booster rockets to ensure he travels safely along the parade route.
“It looks impressive,” Rainboth said of Santa’s new ride.
Before Santa arrives, though, on-lookers will get a chance to marvel as about 80 brightly-decorated floats pass by Saturday evening.
Volunteers will be on hand during the parade to collect letters to Santa and also those written for troops currently serving overseas.
Firefighters will also be collecting donations, namely money, new toys and food items, for the less fortunate.
Santa’s Parade of Lights takes place Saturday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. It runs along St. Joseph Boulevard from Youville Drive to Prestone Drive, just past Place d’Orléans.
