If a relay silver medal and an eighth-place overall ranking at the short track junior worlds earlier this month in Sherbrooke, Que. wasn’t enough – now she’s ready to try out for the Canadian junior long track team Jan. 30-Feb. 1 in Vancouver, B.C.
Blondin was back in Ottawa from her regular training site at the national short track centre in Montreal to work out on the outdoor long track at Brewer Park this week in preparation for what will be her first long track competition in over five years.
The 18-year-old says she chose to specialize in short track because she finds long track isn't as exciting since skaters are essentially racing against themselves instead of having competitors all around them.
Blondin figures her chances are very good shot at capturing one of four Canadian berths on the team that will go to the long track junior worlds in Poland Feb. 20-22 despite very rarely skating on a long track in recent years.
