Ottawa scored twice with the man advantage in the first period when Gloucester took the only three minors of the frame. Defenceman Richard Penning took the first penalty for boarding and was later ejected for a hit from behind.
Jr. Sens forward Andrew Newell made them pay for their later penalties, giving Ottawa a 3-1 advantage moments after the Rangers regained one forward during a 5-on-3 disadvantage.
Newell, a Navan native who played last season for the Cumberland Jr. ‘C’ Bandits, was named to the league’s third all-star team at the end of the regular season. Gloucester defenceman Sean Blunden, who picked up an assist in the contest, was a second-team all-star.
Michael Webley and Mitchell Fournier scored in a losing cause for the Rangers, who will host Game 3 at Earl Armstrong Arena tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

The Ottawa Jr. Senators scored three of their five goals on the powerplay last night in a 5-2 victory over the Gloucester Rangers to even their best-of-seven Central Junior ‘A’ Hockey League playoff series at one game apiece.
