The first-year University of Ottawa student captured bronze in the men’s 200-metre backstroke, setting a new Gee-Gees record of two minutes, 2.38 seconds in the event. The time also knocked off over two seconds from the personal-best mark he swam last year to qualify for the senior nationals as a 17-year-old.
Best was also part of the Gee-Gees’ silver medal-winning men’s 4x100 m and 4x200 m freestyle relay teams that also clocked new school bests at the championships.
Best will race at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships Feb. 18-20 at the University of Toronto.
