Video: Griffins player receives city’s top lacrosse honour
Ryan Fournier was definitely one of the youngest people honoured at the Ottawa Sports Awards dinner this past Wednesday at Algonquin College, but the 15-year-old certainly isn’t short on achievements.
Fournier started playing lacrosse over a decade ago in the Gloucester Griffins minor system, and has three times been selected to play on provincial teams – twice in box lacrosse, and in field lacrosse for the first time in 2009.
This past summer, Fournier was the only minor-aged player chosen to the Ontario Midget field lacrosse team, which wound up winning the national title.
“It was good to see all the older guys and learn a lot of stuff from them,” says the midfielder who enjoys the intensity, roughness and speed of the sport. “Traveling with the team was an amazing experience overall.”
