Parents can now register their newborn children directly with the province, thanks to the launch of an online registration service.
The Newborn Registration Service – which connects parents with the Office of the Registrar General (ORG) – allows user to complete and submit statements of live birth, as well as apply for birth certificates and social insurance numbers, online.
The rollout of the service – originally piloted in May 2007 – means the city will no longer collect live birth registrations for babies born on or after June 22, 2009.
“The Newborn Registration Service not only simplifies the birth registration process, it also allows parents the convenience to use the online service at any time of day,” said Acting Mayor Michel Bellemare in a statement on Monday, June 22.
Parents are still required to submit a statement of live birth within 30 days, while those opting to complete the statement on paper will still be accepted by the ORG.
