End to DriveTest strike in sight
The Canotek Road DriveTest centre is expected to resume full services on Jan. 4, following a tentative agreement that will end a province-wide four-month strike by DriveTest workers.
The location in Gloucester’s Canotek Business Park had been operating with limited services since Nov. 12 as managers served lineups that stretched the length of the shopping plaza for most of the day.
DriveTest’s managing director Paul Daglish told The Canadian Press that the union’s bargaining committee is recommending that all employees accept the agreement reached with the company, the details of which have yet to be released.
The dispute stemmed from wages, benefits and job security.
DriveTest will hire 100 new employees in the next few weeks to deal with a backlog that is expected to last for several months. Daglish requested that people wait two or three weeks before booking road tests or other appointments.
