10-0 Homan clinches place in Canadian junior curling final
Orléans’ Rachel Homan has guaranteed herself a place in the Canadian junior curling championships final on Sunday afternoon thanks to an undefeated record through her first 10 matches in Sorel-Tracy, Que.
Homan and her Ottawa Curling Club rink have outscored their opponents 101-44 heading into the final two draws of round robin play today. With the nearest chaser carrying a record of 8-3, the Cairine Wilson Secondary School grad already has first place and a bye to the championship game guaranteed.
Homan has skipped her to team to victories of two points or greater in each match, with three two-point games the closest anyone has to come to knocking of the 2009 Canadian junior silver medallists.
Saskatchewan, one of three teams at 8-3, fell 10-8 to Homan’s Team Ontario yesterday. Homan outcurled Saskatchewan skip Trish Paulsen 80 per cent to 54 per cent in that contest.
The women’s final will be broadcast live on TSN on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The winner advances to the junior world championships March 6-14 in Switzerland.
