Orléans roundabout passes first hurdle
The city’s transportation committee today approved the two-lane roundabout proposed for the intersection of St. Jospeh and Jeanne d’Arc boulevards.
The city’s first stamp of approval comes two days after the Heart of Orléans BIA voted to endorse the project.
Orléans Coun. Bob Monette, however, has indicated he will vote against the proposal when it gets to council. In an earlier interview with the Orléans Star, he said most of the residents he’s talked with don’t want the traffic feature.
The roundabout is part of the larger streetscaping initiative intended to revitalize the area. Money for the project, estimated to cost between $1.5 million to $1.8 million, will come from the $2.5 million federal infrastructure money earmarked for streetscaping in Orléans.
The proposal still has to go before city council for approval.
