The devastation in Haiti has prompted four young musicians from Chapel Hill to put their talents to good use.
Dubé brothers Liam, Jan (pronounced Yan) and Quinn along with friend Sandro Ragusa will be playing classic rock to raise funds for Haiti relief efforts.
Ranging in age from nine to 13, the boys will cover favourites like the Beatles, AC/DC and Pink Floyd on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the Chateau Laurier, where the Haitian ambassador will be in attendance, according to dad Rob Dubé. The boys will also perform again at downtown’s Raw Sugar in March, but are urging people to donate ahead of time so they can triple their impact.
The March concert is for the Pierre Jerome Haiti Relief Fund, which will support House of Hope Orphanage and Grace Children's Hospital. Donations in support of the House of Hope will be matched by a private donor, up to $50,000. In addition, for every dollar donated by individual Canadians before Friday, Feb. 12, the Canadian International Development Agency will contribute a dollar to Haiti relief efforts to benefit families affected by the recent earthquake.
That means “10 bucks is really 30 bucks,” Rob said.
The goal is to raise $25,000 to help children in Haiti.
The band is also collecting tents at the Tuesday performance, Rob continued, adding the family is encouraging people to drop them off at their house at 1763 Windflower Way. In an e-mail, he indicated the tents will be shipped to Haiti via the Canadian Navy.
