East-end family caps off fundraising campaign
It’s been a busy 12 months for the Higginsons, but the east-end family is now celebrating raising more than $20,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society since last summer.
Area youngsters Catherine and Kimberly have been the faces behind Catherine’s Pretty Ponytails Campaign, a fundraiser collecting money and hair donations for the Society via initiatives last June and earlier this year.
Wrapping up their second season of charity work earlier this week, on Monday, June 22 a final event at Boston Pizza Orléans managed to gather just over $2,200, explains mother and organizer Sharon Higginson, bringing this summer’s fundraising total to roughly $16,000.
Combined with last year’s funds, the girls have collected 110 hair donations – which will go towards cancer patient wigs – and almost $22,000 for the organization, she continues, extending her thanks to sponsors and local residents for their support.
“It really means a lot and we could not have done it without all of these people behind us,” Sharon adds.
