St. Pete’s repeats in nail-biting senior football city final
It wasn’t nearly as easy as any of the other games in which they outscored opponents by a total of 257-14, but the St. Peter Knights won their second consecutive National Capital senior football league championship with a 3-0 win over St. Mark tonight at Minto Field in Nepean.
A 22-yard field goal by Ryan Begin, who injured his kicking knee not even five minutes into the game but returned later, with just 2:48 left in the game stood as the difference.
“As close as it was, they’re a good team and they found a way to win,” St. Peter coach Jim Mick said. “I’m really pleased for the guys.”
The Knights now move on to the OFSAA qualifier game Nov. 21 in Kingston against a to-be-determined opponent.
