Carrying the Olympic flame
Prestige, honour, and the eyes of millions of Canadians watching is what St. Matthew High School student Thomas Rockwell will be feeling when he runs across Canada carrying the Olympic Torch.
When he started a presentation for SoGo Active, Rockwell had no idea his would be among the top presentations and he would be selected to take part in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
In January 2010, Rockwell will be running 500 meters across Alberta as he joins approximately 12,000 people who will carry the Olympic Torch as it travels from Ancient Olympia towards Vancouver, BC, the site of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
“It’s still a shock to me to take place in an event that is so historical, and to be representing Canada and St. Matthew, that’s just a bonus on top of it all,” Rockwell said, marvelling at the prospect of taking part in such a monumental event.
St. Matthew High School staff and students are honoured to have one of their own representing their school, their country and the Olympic dream in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
