One-day H1N1 vaccination clinic in Cumberland this weekend
The city will host a one-day H1N1 vaccination clinic at the R.J. Kennedy Community Centre for area residents this weekend.
The clinic will be open on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wristbands will be handed out starting at 7:30 a.m. The R.J. Kennedy Community Centre is located at 1115 Dunning Rd.
The city notes not all children will require a second dose of the vaccine, as was previously recommended. Only those between six months and three years, as well as those under 10 who have a chronic medical condition, need a second dose. Parents bringing their children between six months and three years of age for a second dose will need to show the immunization record handed to them when the children received the first dose.
Residents who are sick are being told to stay home because getting the H1N1 vaccine while ill reduces its effectiveness, according to a city statement. People who are sick can get their shot at a later date.
In an e-mail to residents, Cumberland Coun. Rob Jellett indicated this one-day clinic is in addition to the permanent clinic at the Orléans Client Service Centre at 255 Centrum Blvd. The Orléans clinic operates Monday to Friday from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
