It's so unfortunate that the game of Squash is not well publicized.  It is one of the better sports for cardio.  Our Ottawa Jr. Squash Team captured Gold at the Ontario Team Squash Championship in Niagara, beating two powerful Toronto team, who have not been beaten in the last 6 years and have only been beaten twice in the last 10 years.  This is the first Gold for Ottawa Juniors.  Two of our junior players reside in the east end, one in Orleans and the other in Rockland.  Here is a blurb from the Ottawa jr. Squash Committee.

The Ottawa Region Junior Team just finished an incredible, inspiring weekend by winning the Gold Medal at the Squash Ontario Junior Teams Championship hosted at the White Oaks Resort in Niagara-on-the Lake.  Nine teams with over seventy junior athletes, coaches, and team managers from all over Ontario participated in this grand event.  Winning this tournament for the first time is a great achievement for our local girls and boys, as they had to beat two mighty Toronto teams in one weekend - an extremely impressive accomplishment!"

Team Ottawa is composed of top squash players from the region (Barrhaven, Rockland, Alta Vista, Westboro, The Glebe, Orleans, Nepean...), who had to try-out in order to represent Ottawa at this event.  Team members include:  Girls:  Gabby Renaud (U13), Jamie Nelson (U15), Maya Cristostomo (U17), and Alina D’Asti (U19) – Boys: Franco Patry (U13), Charlie Loo (U15), Joshua Renaud (U17), and Kyle Ogilvy (U19).  The team leaders were Alex Cornett (Manager) and Johnny Wilson (Coach).

Ottawa has a pool of top junior squash players which has been developed through years of hard work from the local squash community as well as their own individual efforts.  This is a good and inspiring story that teaches our kids that hard work, dedication, and team work pays off.  Life changing experiences shape our lives; we believe this is a good one for them.
